I’ve mentioned before that I’m growing my own salad and vegetables this year.
In keeping with my infiltration of German society, I thought I’d better grow some proper German veg. And what could be more German than having your garden full of kohlrabi?
Well… that’s what I thought until they started to turn into aliens… right there in my vegetable patch! Seriously… some are purple and some are green… but they’ve all got tentacles… or possibly antennae. I can’t sleep at night as I’m expecting them to invade the kitchen any minute. If I don’t post again, you’ll know they got me….
This year I’m going to grow my own salads and vegetables.
My delightful but permanently broke teenage son agreed for a modest fee to clear part of the jungle garden to create a small vegetable plot. So the first thing I did was to plant beans, kohlrabi, onions, potatoes and cabbages.
I didn’t plant all those weeds, though… they did that themselves!
But this is a fairly shady part of the garden. The bit that gets the sun is the old farmyard… which is concreted over. So there I decided to try growing things in pots.
It’s a bit of a hotchpotch of flowers, herbs, lettuces, cabbages and peas… but it was a lot of fun to do. And we get to eat it afterwards!
My daughters just saw a couple of deer in our garden. They wandered off up the lane towards the main road. By the time I got there, there was no sign of them. I do hope they manage to find their way back to where they came from… wherever that is!
