Travelling near the Dutch-German border this morning…

… I was pleased to see this expression of civic pride from the village whose name we all know so well….

Wankum

Yes… that really is the name of the village, not a comment on the weather, or a rude word in Latin….

  1. I kept looking at “Scheunenfete” and wondered what was so strange about it… until I looked below 🙂

  2. I love taking pictures of signs for places with weird of rude names. The UK is especially good for this although I am rather proud of the photo I took standing beside a sign in Argentina that said Moron.
I am going over to see some German christmas markets this winter and I will be sure to look out for this pleasantly named placed along the way.

  3. You can get a great view of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, that mouthful of placenames, by heading up the hill to Wank. 🙂
